Hey!

So I'm the Young Greens Co-Convenor for 2011, which is an exciting year because it's an election year! As part of our new site look and feel we are hoping to include some blogs for you to read on various issues.

Let me tell you a bit about me; I'm 29 years old and originally from the Pottawatomie tribe of Michigan, in the United States of America. I'm also a transwoman which some people like to focus on but for me is really just a minor issue of my life. I have been involved in the New Zealand Green Party since 2007 when I moved here, but was involved in the Bay Area Green Party before then.

What draws me to the Green Party, is social justice. I'm a very passionate person and nothing flairs up that passion like the injustices that are all around us. I have been very active in marriage equality in the US, transgender equality in both the US and NZ, and women's rights.

Social justice issues have taken me to Palestine, Burma, and India. I'm very much a hands on person and like to help out in anyway I can. I also believe strongly in educating yourself before making decisions and have lived by that. I have worked in the youth sector for most of my career, and particularly in peer led work.

I'm very fond of fashion and work hard to make my fashion and sustainable, eco friendly, and green as possible. I often can be found mixing up new organic concoctions to use and shampoo, conditioner, bodywash and other toiletries.

I am so excited to be working on the campaign this year and work on increasing the green vote. Most of all I'm very excited to work with the Young Greens and help the youth voice be heard.
