Our Stand – Voting Age

One of the most powerful acts in a democracy – voting – is denied to almost 25% of New Zealanders, those under 18. It comes then as no surprise that after years of being ignored and left out of public debate that we end up with poor voter turnout.

And so the Young Greens are campaigning for the voting age to be lowered to 16 – which will not only set the course for youth participation through familiarisation, discussion and debate at schools and around the dinner table, but will more importantly give us a REAL chance to express our own concerns and to let our voice be heard.
